Talkin’ Transit: Labor Pains

Extensive. Four switches are replaced at the same time that the entire series of interlocking at Pentagon City, more concrete and repair of bridge joints along the general structure of Reagan. More than 2,000 feet of track and 735 feet links are replaced and extensive fire line maintenance. It's quite the laundry list of repairs.

A job that requires three days. The best time to do it, I can see now, rather than on the day of long weekend Thanksgiving - by far the busiest travel year for those who steal.Or better yet - can you imagine the outcry if Metro has decided to close three stations during work / peak? For those of you who are affected by it, I suggest you consider the suggestions for WMATA Trip alternating deep in their press release. Or better yet, rent a Zipcar.

Metro has certainly made some serious gaffes lately, but I do not count this time against them. They get a "free ride" this blogger - for now.

True. But I felt it was coming anyway, since they had posted their August schedule disruptions way back in late July. I suspect they thought they had received in May did before Labor Day (which is why they do not put it), but with the crappy weather weekend and the unfortunate death of another track, it's probably become obvious thing to do this weekend....
