How can I sign up to volunteer to help serve Thanksgiving dinner in the downtown Los Angeles area?

Nov 19, 2008 by Beverly Hills Maloos | Posted in Thanksgiving

With everything going on lately, economic mismanagement, fires, etc. I'm lucky and I have so many reasons to be thankful for, namely my family, my friends and my health. I would like to help serve Thanksgiving dinner in the downtown area of Los Angeles, but do not know how to register to volunteer. If someone can guide me I would really appreciate it.

There should be an ad for soup kitchens in the area of LA but here are a few. Any of these should be able to direct you to a place in your immediate area. Good Job!

Have you heard of people signing up to have free Thanksgiving dinners delivered to them out of laziness?

Nov 22, 2006 by Wake up with the KING | Posted in Thanksgiving

I’ve heard of a few cases where people in my town are signing up for free Thanksgiving meals, certainly are not poor & don’t need them. One I know for a fact- plans to go out tonight, drink & party. His “wake up call” tomorrow is the folks delivering the Thanksgiving dinner at 12:00 noon knocking on his door. He states he will then eat the meal and go back to bed. Mind you, he is not poor and has plenty of places to eat dinner with his family and friends. What kind of behavior is this?

He sounds like a low life-there is probably someone out there who truly needed that meal and is now hungry, because some idiot took what should of went to them.Does your friend even realize how many people in the world go hungry every day. I think he should donate some food to some food banks or shelters.

03 Sep - Memorial of St. Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church

Saint Gregory (540-590) collected the melodies and plain chant so associated with him they are now known as Gregorian Chants. He was elected by unanimous acclamation to the pope. Incidentally, it was also the first monk to become pope. Before his pontificate, he has turned his home into a Benedictine monastery, and used his money to build six monasteries in Sicily and one in Rome. He became a missionary to England, seeing English children are sold in the Roman Forum.

Colossians 1:9-14

Since the day we heard of you, we never failed to pray for you and what we ask God that through perfect wisdom and spiritual understanding, you should reach full knowledge of his will. While you will be able to conduct the kind of life that the Lord expects of you, a life acceptable to him in all its aspects; showing your knowledge of God.You will have to force, based on its own glorious power, never give in, but to bear everything with joy, thanking the Father who made it possible for you to join the saints and with them to inherit light.

Because that's what he did: he got us out of the power of darkness and created a place for us in the kingdom of His beloved Son, in him we gain our freedom, the forgiveness of our sins.____________________

Luke 5:1-11

Jesus was standing one day Y Lake Gennesaret, with the crowd which thronged around him, listening to the Word of God, when he saw two boats near the bank. The fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. He got into a boat - it was Simon - and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water and pay down your nets for fishing."Master," Simon said: "We've worked hard all night and caught nothing, but if you say, I'll pay the nets." And when they did that, they compensated by such a large number of fish that their nets were torn, then they signaled their partners in the other boat to come help them when they came, they filled both boats to sinking point....
