When is Candaian Thanksgiving and what is the history behind it?

So, I was leafing through my calendar and saw the Thanksgiving (Canada). And I was like, "Odd. I thought Thanksgiving was last Thursday of November, why so early?" so any idea why? I want to know.

Thanksgiving Day is proclaimed as "a day of Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been spent," based on 3 Thanksgiving traditions: harvest festivals in European peasant societies where symbol was the cornucopia (horn of plenty); formal observances, such as that observed by Martin Frobisher in the eastern Arctic in 1578 - the first North American Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims' celebration of their first harvest Massachusetts (1621) involving only American turkey, squash and pumpkin. The celebration was brought to Nova Scotia in the 1750s and the citizens of Halifax commemorated the end of the Seven Years War (1763) with a day of Thanksgiving. Loyalists brought the celebration to other parts of the country. In 1879, Parliament declared November 6th as a day of Thanksgiving was celebrated as a national rather than a religious festival. Later and earlier dates were observed, the most popular being the third Monday in October after the First World War, Thanksgiving and Armistice Day (later Memorial) Day has been celebrated in the same week.It was not until January 31, 1957 the parliament proclaimed the celebration of Thanksgiving the second Monday of October EC Drury, former Farmer Prime Minister "Ontario lamented later that" holiday of farmers was stolen by the city "to give them a long weekend when the weather was better.

A Busy Week Off

But that's all. That's all I have on my calendar and I have nine glorious days off. Last year we had a week off all at once too. None of us had nothing really planned, had only been dating a month, and it was complete coincidence that we both had it off at the same time. So we spent the time getting to know each other and cuddling on the couch and watch Firefly and others. This year will not be quite so lazy. We are going nowhere, but I think I have nothing but "no plan".
