Grandparents Day?

Sep 10, 2007 by Heidi H | Posted in Family

Apparently, yesterday was Grandparents day ... and the anniversary of my son too ... I had no idea that they were the grandparents today, nobody in my family "means" big-day .... and it is not you on my calendar at work or at home.I asked several grandparents if they knew it was grandparents day - and they were like "Do not know"

Well - the mother-in law is very angry and hurt that my toddler does not at least give him a card.I said sorry, I had no idea it was that day - I was more focused on the 14 Olds left the anniversary year - and it was not on any of my calendars -- and comes back with "Well, I find it hard to believe - it is on all the calendars in my house" and "I took my children to visit their grandparents and brought at least the homemade cookies when mine were young "(which, incidentally, my husband has no memory of ever happening). I have been to avoid it since. How do I treat a woman like that? I just want to ignore it and pretend it is not there .... it acts "as" often.

Firstly, back in the day when his children were young, they did not even celebrate a day for grandparents! He became a quasi-holiday in 1978. See the following quote:

"The impetus for a National Day of the origin of grandparents with Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. His primary motivation was to defend the cause of the elderly living alone in nursing homes. She also hopes to persuade grandchildren to harness the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide.President Jimmy Carter in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day is celebrated annually on the first Sunday after Labor Day. For 2007, Grandparents Day falls September 9 .. "

If it were me I would just like the letter of his Ramble On, one ear and out the other and just go about doing the things I should do. Your mother-in-law is clearly one of those who just loves to feel harassed and no one thing in this world you can do to change it! Your best approach is passive.

What is a nice crafty idea I can help my little one make for Grandparents Day?

I would like my 4 year old to make a gift for her Grandparents' for Grandparent's Day. Any ideas? She loves to make stuff so this should be fun ;)

get a pack of Crayola Fabric crayons ( fabric store, craft store and some Office Depots ) and have your little one draw pictures on a plain sheets of paper. Transfer their artwork to several plain canvas tote bags and give them to Grandparents as reuseable grocery bags. To transfer place the picture face down on the fabric and iron according to the instructions on the crayon box. In indelible laundry marker, write on each tote below the picture something like " Save the Earth or I'm helping Grandma/Grandpa save the Earth. " They will get lots of attention when they use them and get to brag about the grandkids. Now how often does that oportunity come up?

Just a card -- or take some cardboard -- cut it out like a frame, let her Decorate it with her crayons -- and put her picture inside (or better yet -- decorate the cardboard and let all the grandchildren add their photos).

National Grandparents Day Song - Johnny Prill

www.nationalgrandparentsday.co m "A Song For Grandma And Grandpa" by Singer Johnny Prill is the official song of National Grandparents ...

Safety Begins at Home

The time between arriving home and waiting for a parent to arrive can be as stressful, lonely or easier to get into trouble. Plan fun activities your child can do while he waits for you to come. Find ways to limit the amount of time your child is home alone after school. If your work a flexible schedule, try to go to work and ending the day earlier. Find a relationship of trust that is willing to stay with your child or enroll in a program after school.

7. Determine after-School Rules There are several things we want our children to do to stay safe, but parents have responsibilities, too.We model our children will follow. If you are going to be late, call home and let your child know. Avoid plans change at the last minute. If you plan for someone to pick up your child or have changed the prearranged d ', call the school and ask them to update your child. Keep a recent photo of your child's fingertips together with a table with his size, weight, close friends' names, addresses and phone numbers. Planning ahead will help you keep calm in a crisis.

Choose safety tips that work best for you and your family, and be sure every family member knows the rules and sticks to them.Review these rules throughout the school year, make improvements where necessary and keeping people informed and safe.
