How many people went to the Saints in New Orleans Super Bowl Victory Parade? Nobody knows with certainty. Attendance is not taken to parades of Mardi Gras. Eight hundred thousand? Estimates of the media has reached up to one million. Anyway, it's really saying something in a city whose population is an official in the mid-300s, 000s, down quarter since Hurricane Katrina, a metropolitan area of one million and small change. Basically, no one stayed home.
I know what I saw of my float as we were a bit in the crowd: men, women and children, fifteen and twenty deep, a sea of swirling black and gold and the three together.Route 7-mile Louisiana Superdome through the central business district and back Canal Street at Mardi Gras World on the Mississippi River.
It began at the young age of 13…At the Aquarius Roller Skate rink in La Mesa (native San Diegan’s might remember the place now looong gone). It was the place to be on Friday nights… But it was not because the Milli-Vanilli/NKOTB/Boyz to Men, slow-song sets where you could scandalously hold the hand of your crush in the dark, nor was it because the DJ always played my requests… it was because of the PHOTOBOOTH! That’s right, I liked going to the roller rink so I could get into the photo booth with my girlfriends, boys, and just about anyone that happened to be walking by….(like the guy working at the snack bar or the guy who worked at the shop skate inside the rink). Every Friday night I spent there, I made sure to have U.S. $ 5-10 in one dollar bills, so I could squeeze into the cabin with my friends. At the time, was the only way to have instant gratification of stupid moments ... although not as instantaneous, because there was no screen to watch your digital photos when they were taken, there was just the mirror you look through the lens of the camera above it .. . hoping that the pictures are cute.I laugh now that I remember the tiny little box, not really, it was such a small space, we've packed in! I think it was more difficult to manage our skates bound feet when we went there that all ... then once we were settled, we still had to get the money dollar-eater, who often do not take our wrinkled bills ... The stand had a teeny orange stool can be adjusted by turning the information although it never seemed to get larger or ... The "backdrop" has also changed, it had an orange, blue or white curtain. If we feel "craaazy" and more than two of us girls would laugh through all the shots, which were very fast, sketched from life and often we stick more dollar bills in the machine so that we may have do-overs or copies. ... Man I need to dig up all these old pictures, I even remember that the only other place that had booths at the time was de Mar del right ... but these plans have been three dollars per band ... total rip-off for 13 years, I who was babysitting $ 3.50 per hour....
