I want to find out how someone from out of town could be on a Mardi Gras Float?

I missed Mardi Gras 2008, but I want to know how a person from outside the city / not affiliated with any organizations float may participate in one of the parades.

How do you get information on New Orleans Mardi Gras float crews that will let people join?

For example, do they let people from out of town come help out for a few days?
Jude, thanks so much for your answer. I'm looking for an interesting family vacation (kids in late teens and adults) for about a week or so. Do the super krews let people get involved in actual float making?

If you're interested in float design, Blaine Kern is the resident float icon. You can also tour his facility on the westbank. Mardigrasworld has more info on that.

I've read that you can submit an application to the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club and Morpheus and King Arthur.
