Should I take a debit/credit card or traveler checks with me to Mardi Gras instead of cash?

Feb 17, 2009 by Shan | Posted in New Orleans

I really do not want to be drunk and lose my money or something like that. Does New Orleans to accept the above forms of payment? I of course always make some money for tips.

Traveler's checks are a great concept .. but when you get into it .. Many places have not for her. Even for many countries in South America. Your credit card / debit card will work fine though. There may be some places that you take cash .. wear and a little about yourself.

American Express Travelers Checks. If they are lost or stolen, they can be replaced simply keep up with the numbers on the checks so they can stop payments to them. They will issue new right away and there.

Have a great Mardi Gras!

Have you ever been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans?

Jan 07, 2009 by Rilo Kiley Rules | Posted in New Orleans

Was it awesome or over rated? Was it insanely over crowded?

What all did you do while you were there, and what would recommend checking out and avoiding? How strict are they with carding people at that time?

And finally, where did you stay? One of our friend's has a house off of Magazine Street; is that close enough to the action?

Thx in adv.
MERCI y'all! See ya there!

Awesome vs. Over-rated:

Depends on what parades you go to and where at in the city. Bacchus and Endymion are the big night parades. Day parades are calmer, more family appropriate (certain areas).

Insanely Over-Crowded:

Yes, if you go to the popular night parades (see above). The French-Quarter can get quite crazy and overly crowded. If you don't like crowds, avoid the Quarter. If you still want to see the night parades, the less dense areas are in the wayyyyy back of the parade line along the streets (harder to catch stuff).

Things to do while in New Orleans:

-sight see
-we have a famous zoo and aquarium
-lots of museums
-the entire French Quarter is a museum itself (so much history--find a tour)
-lots of bars and restaurants
-There is nothing to make you bored

Avoid:

-any neighbor that is still deserted from Katrina (highly advised not to "tour")
-walking down dark, empty streets in the French Quarter (side streets are out of view--easier to rob people)
-Not trusting your instincts
-Not using common sense (don't hassle someone if they piss you off, let them take your mardi gras beads, etc. Unstable crazies do live New Orleans too.)

Carding People:

-If you look young and draw attention to yourself, you'll most likely be carded.
-bars will card

Places to Stay:

-the hotels near and around the french quarter are mostly booked as of Jan 09
-stay at a friend's house--magazine street is perfect (people do lots of walking during Mardi Gras, you're location is quite good)

*TIPS*

-Mardi Gras can get crazy and you may see things you don't want to see (fat naked men flashing random people) Go with an open, tolerate mind
-Try the hand-grenade (drink)
-flashing your boobs, making a sign that says you're a tourist, or dressing in a crazy, elaborate costume will get you plenty of beads.
- And if you're dumb enough to think you have to purchase tickets for Mardi Gras---just don't even bother coming.

What is this 'sleep' of which you speak?

Gender Wales and anarchy has been very fun, except for a poem that was anti-American in tone (I can not deny much of the content, because, basically, it listign were reasons why I left the country, but the enthusiastic response of the crowd made me a little uncomfortable), also two singers for the band has decided to be idiots, frankly, throwing beer in the crowd (yes, some of the second splashed me, fortunately, I do not react to contact the news with alcohol).Several of these bands were very good (Blue Gillespie included), the shorts were Lovely - We have seen A Very British Cover Up GDL, which includes reading a Graham Norton esque character - and the poetry and stories are good outside of a woman reading porn very bad. * Shrugs * I ended up writing a poem, while there and get a couple of other ideas for things I want to write, including a couple of vaguely autobiographical showda scene I think they would d 'be a non-living ex-pat in Wales and possibly one to be a / DW TW / SJA fan living in Wales. After it was over, and I tiggerbrasilf and LJ handle someone who does not know I went to Kismet for a dinner night Laet, then stumbled back to mine.
