Cinco de Mayo art project/craft for 1st and 2nd graders?

I teach middle school in Spain, and Cinco de Mayo this year I will have my 8th year working with the 1st and 2nd students to do a little art project / craft for the party.

Ideas?

When I taught kindergarten, we had the kids make hats, because of course, we also did a dance. But the hats would be cute if the 8. Students work with a small number of children. Cut a lip-shaped donut, then strip both ends of a long rectangular piece of paper. Cut a smaller circle on top. Finged glue one end inside the rim, and the spread ends along the edge. Cut a donut correspondents to cover the ends fringed. Then the top of the glue on the other end to bend the ends are lined inside the time. However, if the hats are red, you can decorate with red, white and green ribbon and make a paper flower hats for girls. These are the flowers of silk paper that are folded fan, tiesd middle and ruffled. They are really cute.

You want something easier. Photo copy of the eagle from the middle of the Mexican FIAF then cut two strips of paper, green and red, paste and make a Mexican flag.

A pinata simple paper bag is fun too. You can copy the wings and the head of a bird on construction paper and can be pasted on a small paper bag. Then, just add fringed strips of construction paper to make a real cute bird pinata.

You could teach them the straw weaving son of bright colors. The eight students could make the straw looms. Just take two straws and cut them in half. Now insert a long piece of string through each straw, bend and tape down. Hold the straw with four strings down and then take a piece of wire and start inside and outside, inside and out, everybody, inside and outside, inside and out, everybody. They just keep doing this until they are finished. It's just a weave, it does not become a finished project. The most you can do is push the wire down on the strings, cut off the straws and tie the ends.

Are you in pearls? The Grade 8 students can die macarrons great food coloring, and I think a little vinegar. Once the beads are dry smaller chain right on the son and tie into a necklace.

Any of these work for you? I have more.

Viva La Fiesta!

We are very fortunate to live in a community with many festivals, parades, and activities throughout the year. I think it's funny when I hear people complain about all of them - I know it's a horrible tragedy that live in a small beach community that offers the possibility to take part in festivities French Film Festival, Greek Festival, Festival of the Summer Solstice, Wine Festival, Whale Festival, Sandcastle Festival, Harbor & Seafood Festival, Music & Arts Festival, Cinco de Mayo Festival, Santa Barbara International Film Festival ...the list goes on and on. I digress:) ". We met our friends Mike and Sarah in one of our favorite restaurants, Elements, which is directly opposite and overlooking the courthouse. We were sitting on the patio and had a great time on a beautiful evening dipping event. Gwendolyn slept about half, but she woke up (I think around the Michael Jackson "Thriller" tribute issue - no idea that the links in Fiesta, but good, people went nuts over) and just wanted to see everyone at the table, listening to music in the background, and part of the festival. We had a great night! On Friday, there is a parade horse, El Desfile Historico, which begins on the ocean and goes along State Street, the main street here in Santa Barbara. Believe it or not, it's actually one of the largest equestrian parades in the nation and as we were concerned about the heat and crowds, we were determined to show these horses Gwendolyn! We got up early and drove to where the parade begins to try to get up-close look Gwendolyn horses. It proved a perfect plan because it was much cooler by the ocean and we were able to shimmy our way in the case of horses and bands and dancers and floats lined up for early Parade....
