Jun 19, 2006 by jneely43 | Posted in History

need a collector for this question. i bought a carnival glass vase. and on the bottom of the vase is a flower stamped on it. does anyone know what that means

I am not a collector of carnival glass, but I would imagine it's a maker's mark. If you go to your local library, they should either have or be able to borrow for you books about carnival glass, and that should have the information you are looking for. I did find a site that talks about carnival glass and has a section on maker's marks, and I have provided a link below. I looked at it and didn't see anything with a flower, but maybe you could use the link as a jumping off spot on your search.

Good luck :)

Here She Comes

Spring arrives. It derives. We bring in the first signs of it. Cuttings of jasmine. The first white hyacinth. Laying on the kitchen table. The smell fills the cracks in the wood left by the winter, lingering long after vases and positions on the window sills were found.

The mandarins are out. Imperial. They are dressed for the carnival. Their skin peel as easily as paper. We eat on the lawn, catching the flavor of the bone beneath our fingernails.

The shorter days get longer. The streets around pigeon blue pencil. We close our eyes and dream of sand and sea

The gum of freshly manicured fingers thrust skyward. Grasshoppers break up losing bark brown.

Cats sitting on the hot stone and stretch, languidly on bugs in the grass. Poets get rid of their winter coats, examining how the light has changed afternoon.

We know it. It comes every year, but its arrival is almost a surprise. It is as if we had forgotten his brilliance. She pushes us, sweet and familiar, reminding us that the colors of his palette are only beginning to emerge.

There is no end to this change. And he keeps us wondering.
