Is anyone else booked on a Carnival Cruise out of Galveston this week?

Sep 15, 2008 by tennis | Posted in Cruise Travel

Because of all the destruction and devastation in Galveston we do not want a Carnival cruise from Galveston. However, the carnival did not cancel the cruise, which starts September 21. Accordingly, a Carnival representative told us that we would lose our $ 3,000 if we cancel. Also, the insurance we purchased would not cover us either. I think it is unethical that the carnival is still on the planning of a sailing ship cruise from Galveston where the port is safe.

My daughter and her husband have been reserved for a Carnival cruise from Galveston, which was to leave September 14, the day after the hurricane. I posted a similar question as yours here few days ago. There is no way a cruise can leave Galveston at this time. The island is essentially a total loss. It's devastating and you can not even open my daughter said the same thing. They never even canceled the cruise! I could not believe it. They did not buy cruise insurance, either because they did not intend to cancel their trip. And really, they assumed that in the event of a hurricane, the cruise line would cancel the cruise, without hesitation, and of course, refund their money. But this has not occurred. So I agree with you. I do not think this is right.

How is it "unethical" if the port is reliable?

Unless your insurance covers cancellation for "no reason" or somesuch, you will not be covered just because you decided not to go. You may have a case if you can not go to Galveston / Houston because the airport is closed or restricted flights are in some way, however. Unfortunately, you'll probably also a difficult time finding a hotel for the night before, unless you already have a reservation [make sure and confirm if you do].

Fortunately, you can make the best of things and go on your cruise and have fun.Your concerns are one of the problems of cruising during hurricane season, unfortunately.

Carnival Cruise out of Galveston, or Mobile?

Jan 10, 2009 by Lacey | Posted in Other - Caribbean

Me and my mom are going on a cruise with my best friend kylie, her mom, her dad, and her brother. We were planning on going to carnival ecstasy out of galveston but carnival fantasy out of mobile, Alabama looks allot nicer. Fantasy got renovated 3 times and ecstasy got renovated once. We can't decide which one to go on so any tips can help. Also we are going in June after my 8th grade graduation.

I would normally look at the cities that I would be visiting instead of the ship since the majority of my time would be spend in ports. You might be different because of your age. Fantasy seem to be a fun ship so if you are looking for fun this is the one. Have a look at the Ecstasy.I am not sure what the age is for an 8th grader is since we don't use that here in Barbados so you can choose depending on your age.

Steve's R&R - Week 2 - Cruise & Shreveport

Overall, we both felt the cruise was GREAT! After going on several cruises, we've learned a few things that have helped make this cruise so enjoyable. For one, you should not do everything. We went to 2 shows, a news show and I think that's it. If we did not do a show that night - it was no big deal. I remember the first time we cross, we have tried to show everything, try everything at least once ... bingo, whatever. This time we just spent time relaxing, we took a long nap (I think he had to do with the boat on the ocean) and we ate lots of good food!I had no problems ordering 2 more entries with my entree and Steve would sometimes order 3. The girl next to Steve ordered 4 of the above entry!
