How do i stop fabric dye from running?

Mar 28, 2008 by Fantasia | Posted in Fashion & Accessories

I ordered a bright pink tights for a show of carnival, but the dye works like crazy! If you hold the palms ur Leotard turn pink. How can I stop the dye from running. The performance is tomorrow!

The quickest answer is to wash tights in the hottest water that is safe for fabric. If necessary, soak it for a while with a little detergent. This will help remove excess dye. Once the excess fluid was removed, you will not rub dye off your skin like that, unless the garment is really bad (in which case it must be returned for a refund).

Have you shop for quilting supplies nearby, or a JoAnn fabric store? There is a commercial dye fixative called Retayne, which is popular with the quilt and is also sold by Joann.Unlike vinegar and salt, the tales of two old women who do not work better than just washing, Retayne will correct color in place. It is the only thing that can make the stain continues to run permanently.

carnival birthday decorations

Aug 12, 2008 by Mrs. Nickerson | Posted in Other - Holidays

ok so we want to give our daughter a carnival theme for her 3rd birthday and ive searched all over the internet and i cant really find any ideas on how to decorate, like where can i find that red and white strip fabric? where or how i can make the games myslef.
also i need ideas for the alterative for dart throwing( they will be young kids) but i want something along those line but more safe then a needle.
any pictures or websites would be great thank so much!!

I love your theme!

You can do red and white balloons and cluster them in the corners and around the party area.
Then you can get red and white streamers and hang them around the party area too. That will add to the festivities of the party! You can also get some of the round paper lanterns, the ones that have NO lights in them and hang them around the party area in varying lengths, they would add to the party feel.

You can do red tablecloths and white napkins and make everything red and white. Accent with white and make things red and white. You can even do red and white streamers around the posts around your house. Wherever the party area is, if there's a post, wrap the red and white streamers around them like big candy canes!

For games, you can take 2 liter soda bottles and either leave them filled or fill the bottoms with sand so they don't tip over and make that the ring toss game. Use the soda bottles that you use for your daily home use or for the party and line them up in rows of 3 or 4 and make a few rows and have the kids throw the rings to them and decide how many they will have to get for a prize.

You can also get a kiddie pool and put some prizes in there with a magnet on them. Get a fishing rod, in plastic with a magnet on the end and have the kids fish for their prize. Whatever the magnet fishes out for them is their prize.

You can also get some big pieces of foamcore, even just one, cut a circle or two out of it and draw a head and shirt and make it so the kids can put their face in there and take pictures, like you do at pumpkin patches during the fall. Only you can draw whatever you want!

An AWESOME place to get prizes and decorations is orientaltrading.com they are VERY reliable and their prices are BETTER than the dollar store because they sell things in lots or bulk, they have things for prizes and goodie bags, etc. They are awesome and have SO much to offer and you spend less there than you would at a dollar store and they are VERY reliable! You can't beat them for party goods! I would definitely go and check them out! It's orientaltrading.com You can get a LOT there for decorations and prizes, etc.

Alternatives for dart throwing, you can just do those velcro balls, or make them yourself. You can buy velcro anywhere, even in the dollar store, and craft store. You can make an area where the kids have to throw a light little ball to a target and if they get it there they win. You can wrap the velcro around the ball so it sticks to the material.

You can decorate with all bright colors. Carnivals are fun and bright and they do have the reds and whites. The balloons and streamers will take up a lot of that, along with the red tablecloths, etc.

I hope some of these ideas help and that your daughter has a great party and a very Happy Birthday!!

Shy FX & Benny Page@ Fabric - Playaz Carnival Special

Shy FX and Benny Page @ Fabric - Playaz Carnival Special 24 August 2007

What I learned this week

Moving and unpacking is never pleasant. Ever. Well, maybe if you're a college student and everything you own fits into your tailgate is not so bad, but not always pleasant. But just because it's not nice does not mean she does not write many opportunities to learn about yourself. So let's go. That's what I learned this week.

1. We all know that I have too many things. This is not new. What I learned is that I have a lot of stuff that I'm more attached to what I thought.I never thought of myself as being too attached to things, but while trying to complete my goodwill box I put things in the store, "the basement" box instead. As if a day, I need two copies of Confessions of St. Augustine. The problem with my attachment to books is that I have not read half of those that I refuse to get rid of. This is not bad itself, except for the fact that I had some of them for 5, 10 years and have still not read. I think I could ever read. But I kept them anyway, thinking I'd join swap pocket one day.

And speaking of a day, so I have tissue with plans for each piece I do "someday." I am saying no new material until spring.

2. I learned that I like to plan things very much in my head before acting. If I'm not sure exactly where everything okay, I'm a little frozen. Not that I'm undecided, I just do things "right." Ha ha ha. I have not heard that I like things my way. It was old news. (I'm hearing Arthur say "Amen")

3.I learned that no matter how frustrated I am or how I can be overwhelmed, sitting on the floor with my children is always fun. Boxes and piles and piles and piles can wait. Sometimes, stepped away from it all is the best medicine.

4. And sometimes the medicine is not a teething baby feel better. Sometimes, snuggles and cuddles are the best medicine. I also learned that the first teeth that do not sleep the night unpacking + = not good....
